- War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy (no, I promise I'm not just saying this one to sound smart; the descriptions of Russian aristocracy and the love story in this book are fantastic)
- Lords of Discipline by Pat Conroy (my list would not be complete without this author, a great southern writer who captures the culture)
- Love Story by Erich Segal (one of the simplest, shortest books you'll probably ever read but will want to read again and again)
